INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF CLASSICAL MUSIC

Passion- Classical Music- Master Classes by internationally known professors , in Platres ,the Crossroad of Culture and Civilization , where Musical Events regain their glory and prestige. For one week Platres, will be filled with the sounds of classical music performed by young artists from all over the world, passionate to learn, share , perform classical music where nature inspires and where a lot of well-known musicians have left their footprints since 1930, when the first musical concerts were organized in Platres.
The vision of a Classical Music Concerts , with Master classes was for many years, in the mind of the internationally known violinist and chamber musician , ex Artistic Director of the European Community Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) Wolfgang Schröder’s who lives permanently in Cyprus and performs internationally regularly.
His passion and love for classical music and his eager to share his knowledge and experience with young musicians from Cyprus and all over the world was embraced by the President of Platres’s Community Council and Founder of Troodos Network of Thematic Centers, Panayiotis Papadopoulos, who had the same Vision and the International Academy of Classical Music has been formed in order to provide Master Classes and create a culture of appreciation of classical music in Cyprus but also entertain through concerts and create a platform of musicians working together.
The International Academy of Classical Music will offer great opportunities for students, especially gifted Cypriot students, who will be able to study with international artists/professors, and exchange ideas and experiences with their peers from abroad.
The International Academy of Classical Music will be inaugurated with a teachers concert in the Cultural Center in Platres, follows by four students concerts at the Cultural Center in Platres, where students will give chamber music concerts alongside with their professors and it will close gloriously for this summer with an Open Air Concert in Platres Square.
The close collaboration gifted Cypriot Artists, who, together with the most successful students of the Master classes as soloists, will play in the closing concert of the Festival adds value and prestige and guarantees a long and sustainable cooperation with all stakeholders and Platres’s Community Council , which will further enrich the cultural life on the island.

    As soloist and chamber player, Wolfgang Schröder performs in prestigious concert halls such as the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Vienna Konzerthaus, at the Great Performers Series at the Lincoln Center New York, at the Frick Collection Museum, New York, at London’s Barbican Hall, the Megaron Music Hall of Athens and at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

    Schröder’s discography is extensive. He released the Complete Sonatas for Violin by Eugene Ysaye for Hook Records in November 2015.Also he works as Artistic Director of the European Union Chamber Orchestra and Since 2005, in conjunction with an active performing career, he is Concertmaster of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.

    Israeli cellist Chagit Glaser made her debut at 14 with the Tchaikovsky Rococo variations with the Beer Sheva Sinfonietta Orchestra and is a graduate of the Rubin Academy of Music, Tel-Aviv and Juilliard. She has had an active performing and orchestral career both in Europe and the USA and has collaborated with artists such as Pinkus Zuckerman, Lukas Foss and Shlomo Mintz. After living in New York for 13 years, Chagit returned to Israel where she is now a faculty member of the Rubin Academy of Music at the Tel-Aviv University. She continues to perform as a soloist and chamber musician worldwide as well as frequently invited to give master-classes.
