CYPRUS SWEETS

The sweet ‘glyko’ is a preserved fruit, very sweet tasting that when offered is accompanied by a glass of cold water as is the tradition in Cyprus. ‘Kadaifi’ are syrup soaked pastry strands wound in a roll. ‘Galatopoureko’ is a milk cream filling wrapped in flaked pastry. ‘Mahalebi’ is a creamy pudding served in a bowl of rosewater syrup and is much sought after by Cypriots in the summer months because it is so refreshing. You can also try the Cyprus rice pudding which is sprinkled with cinnamon. The list of Cyprus traditional sweets is exhaustive and includes; ladies fingers, pishides which are drenched in citrus flower water syrup ,or loukoumades (honey fried sweets).
